A single skylight makes a dramatic difference in this home.
The owner of thiis home built, in 19821982, wanted to bring more light into the windowless living room. During the in-home consultation, a single Velux fcm 4646 skylight was chosen as the solution.

The amount of light in here is incredible.
The benefits of a modern skylight upgrade are many.
- Modern low E3 glass is remarkably sophisticated—letting in plenty of light and blocking the majority of the sun's heat.
- Solar room darkening shades contribute to energy savings by blocking the sun's heat. They also act as an insulator to keep warmth in at night or on cold winter days.
- Remote controlled solar operated venting skylights will produce a chimney effect. They will draw in fresh air through open windows. They will expel hot air out the roof.
- This can create a significant reduction in AC use.
Up on the roof.
Once the location has been determined and the hole is cut in the ceiling and roof, the surrounding area is stripped of shingles. Then a curb is constructed from 2 x 6 lumber and attached to the roof deck.
Next comes the weather proofing. The curb and the surrounding area are covered with a sticky underlayment. Velux custom engineered flashing interweaves with the shingles as they are replaced.
The final step is the easiest, attaching the skylight, with it's polymer gasket on the underside, to the curb. Something like a lid on a shoebox.
Thes three steps sllows Velux to warranty the parts and labor of the installation for a period of ten years. No leaks!
